What gear do I use?

As I receive this question daily in my DMs, I've created a page detailing the gear I use for my FPV videos and regular photography. If you choose to purchase any of the listed products, using the affiliate links would be greatly appreciated!

FPV Equipment

Goggles and Controller

This is my essential setup, paired with the mentioned FPV drones below. The compact TBS Tango 2 controller is great for portability. I use DJI Goggles V2 but consider DJI Goggles 2 for future-proofing. Practice with Liftoff, a flight simulator, is crucial before flying these drones.

Drone 1 - Freestyle Drone

This is the drone I use for all my mid-long range landscape shots. I would not fly this quad much further out than 1km. Avoid flying this drone indoors or in close proximity to people to prevent potential dangers posed by the propellers. When shooting with a GoPro, I use Reelsteady Go to stabilize the footage.

Nazgul Evoque F5 V2 6S HD

I prefer the deadcat model to keep propellers out of my camera's view. Opt for options with GPS, and as mentioned earlier, ensure you check the TBS CROSSFIRE NANO RX option.

Drone 2 - Long range Drone

This drone is my go-to for capturing landscape shots over long distances. With the capacity to carry larger batteries, it's capable of flying much farther—I've taken it 3km out without any issues. Keep in mind, this quad isn't suitable for indoor or close-proximity flights around people.

BOB57 O3 Cinematic 6S HD

I recommend choosing the options with GPS. As mentioned above, be sure to check the TBS CROSSFIRE NANO RX option.

Drone 3 - Cinewhoop

This drone is able to fly through and in proximity of objects. It's a very good beginner drone which can still carry a full size GoPro. This drone can be flown indoors.

ProTek35 V1.4 O3 6S HD

GPS is not necessary as you won't fly far out with this drone.  As mentioned above, be sure to check the TBS CROSSFIRE NANO RX option.

Essentials

Here are all other bits and parts you'll need to start flying FPV, such as batteries and tools.

Batteries & Charger

Every drone needs other batteries. All drones mentioned above fly on 6S batteries but they all have a different mAh count. The higher the mAh count the bigger the battery, the higher the price but the longer you can fly with it.

Prop Tool

Easy tool to quickly replace propellors and take the drone apart.

Soldering Iron Kit

Although all drones above are bind and fly (no soldering required) you will crash at one point and need to repair some parts.

Cheaper Options

After exploring the links and checking out the prices, you might find yourself thinking, 'No way am I investing in all that!' Here, I've rounded up some more budget-friendly options to give you a taste of FPV without breaking the bank.

DJI Avata

The DJI Avata is an ideal entry-level drone for diving into the world of FPV with minimal effort. It's ready to take flight straight out of the box, requiring significantly less setup compared to the standard FPV drones. The goggles that come with this setup can be used with all drones mentioned above.

BETA FPV Cetus

This is the most budget-friendly way to dive into FPV, but it's more of a toy than a professional tool. Keep in mind that if you decide to upgrade later, none of these components can be reused. However, it's an excellent way to test the waters and see if FPV is your thing.

Camera Gear

Camera and Lenses

For my landscape photography, I rely on the Sony A7III paired with two essential lenses—the Sony 16-35 f2.8 GM and Sony 70-200 f4. This combination allows me to capture the diverse beauty of the landscapes I encounter.

Sony A7 III

The Sony A7III is a top-tier mirrorless camera, packing a 24.2MP full-frame sensor for superb image quality. Its 693-point autofocus and 5-axis in-body stabilization ensure sharp shots in any situation. With 4K video capabilities and a weather-sealed design, it's a versatile choice for both photo and video enthusiasts.

Sony 16-35 f2.8 GM

The Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 GM lens is a wide-angle wonder. With a versatile 16-35mm range and a speedy f/2.8 aperture, it's your go-to for sharp, low-light shots. Tough build, dreamy blur, and perfect for epic visuals.

Sony 70-200 f4

The Sony 70-200mm f/4: your go-to for versatile telephoto shots. From distant subjects to portraits, it delivers consistent clarity with a constant f/4 aperture.

Camera Drone

For my arial landscape photography, I rely on my trusty DJI Mavic 2 Pro. It's a rather older drone since it was released back in 2018 but it still impresses with its Hasselblad camera. If you're looking for something newer look at the DJI Mavic Mini 4 Pro or DJI Mavic 3 Pro.

DJI Mavic 2 Pro

The Drone I still use and is still a power horse. DJI doesn't sell this drone anymore but you can find it at Amazon or secondhand for a great price!

DJI Mini 4 Pro

The Mini 4 Pro seamlessly combines professional-grade capabilities with its signature lightweight design, providing unparalleled freedom and adaptability for drone enthusiasts.

DJI Mavic 3 Pro

The DJI Mavic 3 Series elevates imaging performance to new heights. With the Mavic 3 Pro, experience a groundbreaking triple-camera system that marks the dawn of a new era for camera drones.
